What issues would you like to see us address?

We are working on a list of parking/transportation related issues for the committee to discuss. A working draft of that list is included to the right. Please take the time to go through and select those that you think are the most important ones for the committee to address. If there are topics/issues that we have not included that you would like to see added, please include them in comments to this posting. Thanks!

  1. Why are we charged the same price to park at a head bolt location as other non-head bolt location? or to better put it why does it cost the same (decal) to park in locations where one does not have access to a head bolt.

  2. I'd like to see the issue of parking spaces w/out plugin access addressed.
Why does IARC lot 9E have tons of empty spaces w/plugins, but AHRB lot 9B is full w/many parking spots lacking plugins?

  3. I'd like to see the shuttles go to a per use fee (or an optional purchased shuttle pass), instead of the flat fee for all students. This would be a more fair system, as right now all of us who never ride the shuttle are forced to pay for it.

  4. I noticed that there was snow removal in the dorm parking lots during the middle of Sprink Break. Wouldn't it be more efficient to conduct snow removal when more students are present to remove their cars?

It would be really helpful if Parking Services took advantage of the listserv to email people about snow removal.

  5. It would be nice if snow removal would take place in the lot across from the Patty Center, so that people could see the lines thus vehicles would not be parked randomly and more would have access to the plug-ins.

Even better yet the number of plug-ins could be increased in the non-paved area.

Another option would be to limit that particular lot to no long term parking.

  6. I like the poll for what the committee should address :-) Why is it a radio button poll though (only one answer possible)? I'd like to see the committee address a few of the listed items but only get to vote for 1 :-(

  7. Thanks for the comment on the poll. It was meant to be setup so that people could vote for more than one issue. I have made the change as indicated in the post from this morning.

  8. I disagree with Edie that Lot 9E has tons of empty spaces. I work in WRRB and have often driven around and around without finding an available space in the IARC lot, or behind ONEI, or in the lot be AHRB. There are simply not enough parking spaces on West Ridge to accommodate staff - and I notice lack of staff parking is not an option in the poll of what the committee should address.

  9. Seems to me that encouraging biking to campus would be a good way to reduce the need for parking lots. Providing secure bike lockers and spaces, bike paths (that are kept plowed in the winter), bike racks or mounts inside the buildings, and so forth would be good for reduction of smog, wellness of employees, safety of drivers and bicyclists, and -- hey -- bikes take up a lot less room than cars and trucks and don't need headbolt heaters--would reduce parking-associated costs and annoyance. Stress reduction is another benefit to making the campus bike-friendly.
